Detailed Comparison of the TOTO Neorest NX1 and the Bio Bidet IB-385 Toilet and Bidet Seat

Look and Feel

The TOTO Neorest NX1 simply can’t be beat when it comes to style. Its smooth, clean curves give it an ultra-modern look that is sure to elevate any bathroom to a new level of luxury. The Bio Bidet IB-385 is an attractive unit but isn’t nearly as sleek and streamlined as the the TOTO Neorest NX1. Additionally, the NX1 features an innovative, rimless bowl design that gives bacteria and grime no place to hide, leading to a cleaner, more hygienic unit. It also offers a redesigned seat that provides users with more support and stability than before, giving a whole new meaning to the term “porcelain throne”.

Convenience

Auto Opening

The TOTO NX1 gives users the option of a completely hands-free bathroom experience from start to finish, beginning with a lid that automatically opens and closes when a user walks towards or away from the unit. The Bio Bidet IB-835 doesn’t offer this feature, so users will need to open and close the lid the old fashioned way.

Nightlight

If you’ve ever stumbled to the bathroom in the dark or been blinded by the bathroom light during a nighttime restroom trip, you know that answering nature’s call in low light situations can be unpleasant and down right hazardous. That’s why the TOTO Neorest NX1’s features a built-in nightlight that illuminates the bowl with a gentle glow. The Bio Bidet IB-835 doesn’t have a built-in nightlight, but if this feature is on your must-haves list, you can always purchase an after-market nightlight and install it yourself. The after-market versions aren’t quite as streamlined as the built-in kind, but they function the same and are available in a variety of colors.

Wash

Water Flow

The TOTO Neorest NX1 delivers a powerful wash all while conserving water (0.11 gallons per minute). In comparison, the Bio Bidet IB-835 uses a bit more water for washing (0.18 gallons per minute). In the short term, this is unlikely to make much of a difference, but the extra water usage can add up over the life of the Bio Bidet IB-835, resulting in a higher overall water bill and making it a less eco-friendly choice.

Water Heating

Many users aren’t aware that there are a variety of different water heating systems on the market today, but it’s important to know your options since the way in which wash water is heated has a direct impact on user comfort. The TOTO Neorest NX1 has an instantaneous water heating system, which means that there’s unlimited warm water for washing, no matter how long or how frequently you use the unit. The Bio Bidet IB-835, on the other hand, has what’s called a tank water heating system, in which water is stored in a tank and heated for use. This results in a limited amount of warm wash water. Use the unit in quick succession or run an extra long wash cycle, and you might run out of warm water. If this happens, the unit will continue washing but will switch to using cool water until the warm water tank has a chance to refill and heat the water, a process that takes several minutes.

Other Differences

Weight Limit

If you’re looking for an integrated unit with a higher weight limit, the Bio Bidet IB-835 can support up to 400 lbs. The TOTO Neorest NX1 supports up to 350 lbs, so a bit less weight than the IB-835.

Flushing

The Bio Bidet IB-835 offers one standard flush option, which uses 1.6 gallons of water per flush. On the other hand, the TOTO Neorest NX1 features a water-conserving dual flush, meaning that users have the option of using 0.8 gallons per flush or 1.0 gallons per flush, depending on your flushing needs. This water conserving feature will keep your wallet happy and the planet healthy without sacrificing much in the way of flush power. Furthermore, the TOTO Neorest NX1 features a reconfigured flushing system that delivers an even more powerful flush than before, all while targeting the most difficult-to-reach parts of the toilet bowl. It’s also worth noting that the Neorest NX1’s flushing system is powered by a pump that increases the strength of the flush while the Bio Bidet IB-835’s flush relies on gravity.

PREMIST

The TOTO Neorest NX1 offers PREMIST, meaning that a thin film of water is automatically sprayed onto the bowl prior to use to prevent residual waste from sticking. This helps keep the unit cleaner longer, cutting down on the amount of hygiene maintenance users need to perform. The Bio Bidet IB-835 doesn’t offer PREMIST, so you can expect to need to clean it with about the same frequency as an ordinary toilet.

EWATER+

A majority of TOTO’s integrated units, including the Neorest NX1, utilize electrolyzed water (called EWATER+) to sanitize the unit’s bowl and nozzles after use. The Bio Bidet IB-385 cleanses the bowl and nozzles after use, but it uses regular water that doesn’t have the same sanitizing properties as TOTO’s EWATER+.

Customer Support

The user feedback we’ve gotten points to Bio Bidet’s customer service as being some of the best in the business. TOTO offers good customer service as well, but we’ve heard some mixed reviews, so in our book, they take second place in the customer service department.

Final Thoughts

The TOTO Neorest NX1 is a tough unit to beat, and it comes out ahead of the Bio Bidet IB-835 in both looks and features. That said, two areas where the Bio Bidet IB-835 really shines are weight limit (the Bio Bidet can support up to 400 lbs while the TOTO NX1 can only support 350 lbs) and customer service. However, the TOTO Neorest NX1 isn’t far behind the IB-835 in both these areas, so if it’s in your budget, the Neorest NX1 by TOTO is a great unit to consider.
