First, the panel covers the plumbing and a portion of the bidet's electrical wires. Second, it hides the bolts that attach the toilet to the floor, which makes the installation process easy. In comparison, models without the access panel screw into mounting brackets located on either side of the flange. While this makes the installation process a bit more involved, it does provide a sleek silhouette that units with a plastic access panel lack.
