Detailed Comparison of the Brondell Swash 1400 Bidet Seat and TOTO C200 WASHLET

Look and Feel

Designed to Hide Connections

An aesthetically appealing unit from the start, the Brondell Swash 1400 takes curb appeal to a whole new level by featuring a small pouch designed to hold the unit’s connections. The TOTO C200, like most other bidet seats available, doesn’t have this feature, meaning that the units cords and hoses will be visible to users.

Convenience

Auto Mode

Having customizable features is great, but it’s also nice to have an easy, on-touch wash and dry option for when you’re in a hurry, have guests over who aren’t familiar with bidet seats, or are a multi-user home with family members who feel overwhelmed by the many options on the remote. That’s where auto mode comes in. Offered by the Brondell Swash 1400, auto mode allows users to initiate a standard wash and dry cycle at the touch of a button. The Swash 1400 also features programmable settings and allows up to two users to pre-program a fully customized wash and dry cycle. While the TOTO C200 also has two programmable user presets, it doesn’t feature an auto mode option.

Built in Nightlight

With the Brondell Swash 1400, your days of stumbling to the bathroom in the dark are over thanks to a built-in LED nightlight that gently illuminates the bowl. The TOTO C200 doesn’t come with a nightlight, so you’ll either have to do without or purchase an after-market nightlight. The after market versions do a good job illuminating the bowl and come in a variety of colors, but they’re not as sleek as those that are built into the unit, and you do have to spend the time installing it yourself.

PREMIST

The TOTO C200 comes with a nifty feature called PREMIST. PREMIST coats the bowl with a thin film of water prior to use, making it harder for waste and other residue to stick to the bowl, leading to a cleaner unit overall. While this won’t completely eliminate the need to periodically clean your toilet bowl, you may notice that you don’t have to clean it as frequently. Like most non-TOTO bidet seats, the Brondell Swash 1400 doesn’t offer a PREMIST feature, so your toilet will rely solely on good old fashioned elbow grease to stay sparkling clean.

Sittable Lid

The Brondell Swash 1400 features a heavy duty lid that is sturdy enough to support up to 270 lbs, whereas the TOTO C200’s lid is not designed to support the weight of a seated adult. This means that if you like to sit on the toilet lid while clipping toenails or drying nail polish, you’ll want to choose the Brondell Swash 1400.

Warranty

The Brondell Swash 1400 wins in the warranty department, offering a 3 year limited warranty that can be upgraded to 5 years. It entails 100% coverage the first year, 75% coverage the second, and 50% coverage the third, though you would be responsible for shipping costs if you sent the unit in for servicing. The TOTO C200 offers a 1 year limited warranty, and when it comes to the experiences of our customers, TOTO’s customer service track record isn’t quite as good as Brondell’s. Both these bidet seats are built to last, but it’s nice to have the peace of mind that comes with a good warranty in case something goes awry, as repairs can come with a hefty price tag.

Wash

Positionable Nozzles (with Adjustable Spray Width)

Coverage is the key to a great wash, and the Brondell Swash 1400 offers seven different nozzle positions and three different spray width options to ensure that you get a thorough wash with minimal body repositioning. The TOTO Swash 300 also offers positionable nozzles, but you don’t have quite as many options as with the Brondell Swash 1400, making the Swash 1400 the winner in this category. It’s also worth noting that the Brondell Swash 1400 features durable stainless steel nozzles, while the TOTO C200 has plastic nozzles. In addition to being a higher quality material, stainless steel is also less prone to cracking and corrosion, and because it’s less porous than some materials, it can theoretically be cleaned more effectively.

On-Demand Nozzle Sterilization

Both the TOTO C200 and Brondell Swash 1400 feature nozzles that automatically rinse themselves with water after each use to help keep them fresh. The Brondell Swash 1400 offers an added layer of protection with its Silvernado technology, which uses silver, a natural antimicrobial agent, to disinfect the unit’s nozzles. It’s similar to the sterilizing technology used by hospitals to clean surgical tools and ensures that your bidet’s nozzles are the cleanest they can be. It’s worth mentioning that this only sterilized the unit’s nozzles, not the water used by the unit. If you’re looking to sterilize the wash water itself, you’ll want to install an in-line iodine filter in your unit.

Endless Warm Water

Water heating methods vary by seat and can impact the wash experience, so it’s worth knowing which type you’re getting when you purchase a seat that advertises a warm water wash. The Brondell Swash 1400 has an instant water heating system, meaning that you’ll never run out of warm water no matter how long you run the wash cycle. The TOTO C200 takes a different approach to heating the wash water. It features a tank water heating system, which warms a set amount of water at a time. Once you use up the warm water in the tank, the unit will switch to using cool water until the tank has a chance to refill. Depending on how much you run the wash cycle, or whether the unit tends to be used by multiple users in quick succession, this may or may not be an issue for you, but it’s good to know what you’re getting ahead of time.

Final Thoughts

The Brondell Swash 1400 is a tough seat to beat, and it comes out head and shoulders above the TOTO C200 in look and feel, wash options, and convenience features. While the TOTO C200 does offer the unique PREMIST feature, it simply can’t compete with the Brondell Swash 1400’s hidden connections, sittable lid, endless warm water, Silvernado nozzle sterilization technology, nightlight, auto mode feature, nozzle position and spray width options, and 3 year limited warranty. If you’re looking for a seat that has just about every feature possible, the Brondell Swash 1400 may just be the seat for you.
