Detailed Comparison of the Kohler Novita BG-90/93 VS. Brondell Swash 1200 Bidet Seats

If you are looking to add luxury and comfort to your bathroom routine at an affordable price, the Brondell Swash 1200 and Kohler Novita BG-90/93 are two great bidet seat models to consider. Below, we sort through the specific differences between these seats to help you make a well informed decision for your household.

Look & Feel

Both these seats come with a similar sleek, elegant and contoured design that will look great in almost any bathroom. Additionally, both the Kohler Novita BG-90/93 and Brondell Swash 1200 come in one color, white, and are available in both round and elongated seat options.

Wash Features

Nozzles

Both of these seats come equipped with high quality and hygienic, stainless steel dual nozzles. Although it’s uncommon that you will need to remove the nozzles from your seat, it should be noted the the Kohler Novita BG-90/93 nozzles are easily removable while the Brondell Swash nozzles are not. Additionally, the BG-90/93 offers silver-nano nozzle sterilization as well as an ion water filter for added sanitation.

It is also worth mentioning that the Swash 1200 nozzles can be adjusted to seven different positions, which is more than most seats on the market, for added cleansing coverage and comfort.

Water Flow

The water flow rate of a bidet seat gives an indication of the water pressure and strength you will experience. The higher the flow rate, the stronger the water stream will be, and a stronger water stream creates a faster, more effective wash. The Brondell Swash 1200 has a flow rate of 0.11 gallons per minute, while the Kohler Novita BG-90/93’s flow rate is nearly twice as high at 0.18 gallons per minute. Additionally, the BG-90/93 has a built in pump that increases water pressure, which also helps facilitate a more powerful wash experience.

Wide Spray

Wide spray is a nice feature that the Brondell Swash 1200 offers that works by increasing the water coverage during the wash cycle. This accelerates the cleaning process and can also be more efficient. Although the Kohler Novita BG-90/93 does not have a wide spray option, it compensates for the lack of this feature by offering a higher water flow rate as well as a special pump that increases water pressure.

Water Heater

One element that sets these two seats apart is the way in which water is heated. The Kohler Novita BG-90/93 comes with a hybrid style heater that works by filling and heating a tank in real time, which then supplies water for the wash cycle on demand. This method can supply about 60-90 seconds of warm water at a time. Alternatively, the Brondell Swash 1200 comes with a more advanced, instant ceramic water heater that provides unlimited warm water whenever you need it.

Comfort & Convenience

Warm Air Dryer

The warm air dryer is a great feature offered by the Kohler Novita BG-90/93 that allows you to move away from buying expensive and scratchy toilet paper. Not only will you cut down on paper waste, but you will also save money and add comfort to your routine. The Brondell Swash 1200 does not come with a warm air dryer.

Deodorizer

If you worry about keeping smelly odors out of your bathroom, you will appreciate the Kohler Novita BG-90/93’s powerful deodorizer. The BG-90/93 utilizes a fan that pulls air through an active carbon filter and consequently neutralizes unpleasant odors, keeping your bathroom smelling fresh and clean with every use.

User Presets

The user preset function is a great option for those who will be sharing their bidet seat with a spouse or other household member. This feature allows you to program your specific wash preferences and eliminates the need to reconfigure the seat settings with every use. For added convenience, the Brondell Swash 1200 lets the user program up to two different user presets. The Kohler Novita BG-90/93 does not offer a user preset feature.

Child Mode

For those with young children in the home, the Kohler Novita BG-90/93 comes with an added child safety feature for added security and peace of mind. When the child mode function is in use, the water pressure, temperature and dryer are automatically lowered to better accommodate a young person. The Brondell Swash 1200 does not offer any sort of child mode function.

Night light

A built in nightlight is a really nice feature to have if you or someone in your home frequently visits the bathroom at night. The Brondell Swash 1200 comes with a soft LED illumination feature that gives you extra visibility in the middle of the night, but won’t blind you like regular lights. The Kohler Novita BG-90/93 does not come with this feature. It’s worth noting that you can always purchase an after-market nightlight and install it at home, and while it will afford similar benefits to the built-in kind, it won’t look quite as sleek.

Lid

One desirable feature that sets these seats apart is the sittable lid offered by the Brondell Swash 1200. Oftentimes we don’t think twice about sitting on a standard toilet lid, but a lid that can support someone is actually a rarely found feature on bidet seats because of the advanced hardware encased within the seat. For those who enjoy the convenience of sitting on their toilet lid for activities such as clipping or painting toenails, the Brondell Swash 1200 can accommodate up to 270 lbs.

Other Details

Remote and Control Options

Another major difference between these seat models are they way in which they are controlled. The Kohler Novita BG-90/93 includes a slim side control that is attached to the edge of the seat for easy operation during use. Alternatively, the Brondell Swash 1200 comes with a sleek and intuitive flat button style remote that is equipped with an illumination feature to display your chosen options. The Swash’s remote is also wall mountable for added convenience and accessibility.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to choosing between the Brondell Swash 1200 and Kohler Novita BG-90/93, consider which features would be most valuable to you and your household. The good news is that both of these seats are equipped with great–albeit somewhat different–features and come in at an affordable price point, so regardless of your feature preferences, either is guaranteed to upgrade your overall bathroom experience.
