Detailed Comparison of the TOTO Neorest 550H and the Bio Bidet IB-385 Toilet and Bidet Seat

Users who are looking for a top of the line, luxury experience will notice that the Neorest 550H offers quite a few features that the Bio Bidet IB-385 can’t match. These perks do come with cost, which makes the Bio Bidet IB-385 an appealing option for users willing to forego features for a lower price tag. Below, we’ve broken down the differences between the units so you can decide which features you just can’t live without.

Look and Feel

Both the TOTO Neorest 550H and the Bio Bidet IB-385 feature smooth, clean lines, but the IB-385 is a bit more contoured than the 550H, giving it the edge in overall style. In addition, the IB-385’s remote has a sleek glass panel that allows the user to see the settings they’ve selected, giving it a leg up on the Neorest 550H’s simpler remote design. However, the Bio Bidet IB-385 is only available in white, meaning that it may not be the best fit for users who need a beige unit. On the other hand, the Neorest 550H comes in both beige and white, enabling it to blend in with a variety of bathroom color schemes.

Convenience

Auto Opening

The TOTO Neorest 550H offers a variety of luxury elements, including an auto open feature that will take using the restroom to the next level by eliminating the need to touch the lid during use. Using a sensor, the Neorest 550H detects when a user is approaching or walking away from the unit and automatically raises or lowers the lid accordingly. The Bio Bidet IB-385, on the other hand, features a traditional toilet lid that the user must open and shut the old fashioned way.  Even though the lid must be manually shut on the IB-835, it still offers soft closing, so you’ll never need to worry about it slamming.

Nightlight

As many of us can attest, using the restroom at night can be a nuisance at best and hazardous at worst. The engineers of the TOTO Neorest 550H took this into consideration and designed the unit with a built in nightlight that makes using the unit in low light a breeze. The Bio Bidet IB-385 does not come with a built in nightlight, but after market night lights that require self-installation can be purchased by users who want this feature. The after market versions aren’t quite as stylish as their built in counterparts, but they get the job done.

Wash

Water Flow

Deciding whether less or more water flow is best is mostly a matter of perspective. On the one hand, less water flow means less water usage overall, which helps reduce water bills, lessens environmental impact, and may be especially appealing to users living in drought prone areas. On the other hand, more water usage tends to provide a more thorough wash, leading to a better clean. Users looking to conserve their water usage while still getting a good clean should consider the TOTO Neorest 550H, which uses 0.11 gallons per minute, while users looking for the best cleaning power may prefer the extra wash water provided by the Bio Bidet IB-385’s 0.18 gallons per minute.

Water Heating

Water heating methods can play a big role in the user’s comfort, so we encourage users to know what their options are when they’re purchasing an integrated unit. The Bio Bidet IB-385 offers a tank water heater. With tank water heating systems, the unit provides a couple minutes of warm water washing but switches to using cool or cold water when the warm water in the tank runs out. It then takes around 3 to 5 minutes for the tank to refill with warm water. The TOTO Neorest 550H takes a different approach to heating water, instead featuring an instant ceramic water heater. This offers unlimited warm wash water at a consistent temperature. Unlike the Bio Bidet IB-385, there’s no chance of running out of warm water and no waiting for a warm water tank to refill.

Other Differences

Weight Limit

The TOTO Neorest 550H and Bio Bidet IB-385 are both sturdy, well built units, but the IB-385 beats the Neorest 550H in weight support. The IB-385 is rated to support up to 400 lbs, while the 550H is rated up to 350 lbs, making the IB-385 a better option for larger users.

Flushing

The TOTO Neorest 550H provides two flush options, 0.8 gallons per flush and 1.0 gallons per flush, which enables users to cut back on unnecessary water usage and reduce their environmental impact while still getting a great flush. The Bio Bidet IB-385 doesn’t have this feature and uses 1.6 gallons per flush. While this leads to a good flush, you won’t be saving any water in the process. If water usage isn’t an area of concern for you, we’re confident you’ll be pleased with the flush power offered by either unit.

EWATER+

The TOTO Neorest 550H provides an ultra clean restroom experience every time thanks to EWATER+, a process that sterilizes the water used for PREMIST the toilet bowl and cleaning the bidet’s nozzles before and after use. The Bio Bidet IB-385 also cleans its nozzles before and after use, but the water used for this process isn’t sterilized first.

PREMIST

The TOTO Neorest 550H is easy to keep clean thanks to its PREMIST feature, which automatically sprays down the toilet bowl with a thin layer of water prior to use, helping reduce the amount of waste and residue that sticks to the bowl by up to 80%. The Bio Bidet IB-385 doesn’t offer this, meaning that residue may stick to the bowl more frequently than with the 550H.

Customer Support

We’ve been impressed time and again by Bio Bidet’s excellent customer service. They’re a company that knows how to take care of their customers and strives to provide the best support possible every time. TOTO is a larger company and consequently can be a bit challenging to get in touch with, so we’ve gotten mixed feedback from our customers about their support experiences. Taking this into consideration, Bio Bidet walks away with the win in this category.

Final Thoughts

It’s hard to beat the TOTO Neorest 550H when it comes to luxury features like auto opening, a built in nightlight, instant water heating system, PREMIST and EWATER+, as well as its environmentally friendly dual flush option and low overall water usage. For users who feel deterred by the higher price tag that comes with these features, the Bio Bidet IB-385 offers great value with a sleek look, solid performance, and higher weight limit at a price that is tough to match.
