Looks and Mounting
Though these two units might not look anything alike, there aren’t as many differences as you might think! The most noticeable difference is, of course, the overall look of each. The TOTO Neorest AC is a wall-hung unit with a contemporary, boxy silhouette, while the TOTO Neorest 500H is a floor mounted unit with soft, rounded edges. Being a wall-hung unit means that the TOTO Neorest AC’s tank and flushing mechanisms are hidden in the wall, so the unit itself takes up quite a bit less space than a traditional floor mounted toilet. This makes it a great option for small bathrooms where space is tight. As a floor mounted unit, the TOTO Neorest 500H requires a 12-inch rough-in, which means there needs to be 12 inches between the back wall and the center of the drain or flange. The 500H is also one of the few integrated TOTO units that comes in both white and beige, while the TOTO Neorest AC is only available in white.
Self-Cleaning
The TOTO Neorest AC is one of the few integrated units that features self-cleaning technology called Actilight. Actilight uses UV light in tandem with the unit’s electrolyzed water and special CeFiONtect glaze, to break down residual waste for hands-free, chemical-free maintenance. While the TOTO Neorest 500H cleanses its nozzles after each use, it doesn’t feature the Actilight self-cleaning system.
Final Thoughts
The two main decision points you’ll need to consider with the TOTO Neorest 500H and the TOTO Neorest AC are looks and self-cleaning technology. The Neorest 500H is the more versatile of the two color-wise, as it’s available in both white and beige, but it’s overall silhouette isn’t quite as sleek as the TOTO Neorest AC. The Neorest AC boasts a sophisticated silhouette and ultra-modern floating look, and its compact size makes it a great choice for small bathrooms. However, it only comes in white. The Neorest AC also features TOTO’s cutting edge Actilight self-cleaning technology, while you’ll need to use good old fashioned elbow grease to clean the TOTO Neorest 500H. At the end of the day, your budget, taste and needs will likely determine which is right for you!
