1. Height and Profile

One of the first things you’ll notice when comparing these two seats is their overall height. The S7A has a sleek profile, with a rear height of roughly four inches. This slim design increases comfort, all while blending more seamlessly into your bathroom. 

The S5, on the other hand, does sit noticeably taller, measuring around five and a quarter inches at the back. While that difference may seem small, the added height affects not only the aesthetics but the comfort as well. A slimmer seat will generally provide more sittable space by allowing you to sit farther back on the seat.

2. Seat Comfort Comparison

Both the S5 and the S7A have an adjustable heated seat for year-round comfort. The method each seat uses to detect when someone is seated is a little different however. While the S7A uses a skin sensor, the S5 uses a weight-based sensor to detect occupancy. Because of this, the pads under the front of the seat are different heights so that one can be pressed in when someone sits down. This is a minor difference, but something that some users may find noticeable.

In terms of comfort, the S5 seat is once again a bit bulkier than the S7A. While both seats deliver great washes and build quality, the extra sittable space on the S7A gives it an edge in overall comfort.

3. Auto Opening

This will be one of the biggest differences between these two models. The S7A comes with an automatic open/close lid and seat. This can either be operated by the press of a button or be set to open as you approach and close automatically when you leave. It’s a small convenience that quickly starts to feel like a luxury you don’t want to live without.

The S5 keeps things simple with a standard soft close seat. 

If you’re looking for a hands-free experience that feels more high-end, then the S7A is the way to go.

4. Nozzle Design and EWATER+ Cleaning

While both of these models offer adjustable nozzle positioning, the S7A will come with a telescoping nozzle, allowing it to reach farther forward. The S5, on the other hand, will come with a fixed one-piece nozzle.

Both models also utilize TOTO’s patented EWATER+ sterilization, however on the S5 seat the nozzle is not enclosed, leaving it exposed to possible debris or backsplash.

If you are looking for greater reach or simply want less to clean on your bidet seat, the S7A would be the better option.

5. Wash Features Comparison

When it comes to the actual wash experience, both seats deliver the excellent performance TOTO is known for. Both the S5 and the S7A have a:

The S5 will have a matte finish, while the S7A remote will have a glossy finish with raised buttons. The remote for the S7A also includes a button to easily operate the deodorizer, as well as two infrared transmitters (versus just one on the S5 remote).  

If you have a small bathroom where remote connectivity might be an issue, having the additional infrared transmitter will come in handy.
