Detailed Comparison of the TOTO Neorest AC and the Bio Bidet IB-835 Toilet and Bidet Seat

Looks and Mounting

The TOTO Neorest AC and the Bio Bidet IB-835 fall on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to looks, and deciding which is right for you is largely a matter of personal preference. The TOTO Neorest AC is a wall-hung unit, which means the tank and flushing mechanism are hidden in the wall, making it look as if the unit is floating over the bathroom floor. It’s both aesthetically appealing and is also a great option for bathrooms with limited space as its more compact than traditional floor-mounted units. The Bio Bidet IB-835 is a floor-mounted unit, so if you prefer the look of a traditional toilet, this one may be a better choice for you. It features a clean, simple silhouette that will look great in just about any bathroom and, like most floor-mounted units, requires a 12-inch rough-in (12 inches from the back wall to the center of the floor drain or flange).

Convenience

Auto Opening

The TOTO Neorest AC gives users the option of a completely hands-free toileting experience, beginning with the unit’s sensor-operated lid, which opens and closes automatically as a user walks towards or away from the unit. The Bio Bidet IB-835 doesn’t offer this nifty feature, so you’ll need to open and close the lid the old fashioned way.

Nightlight

We’ve all had the unpleasant experience of stumbling around the bathroom in the dark or being jarred awake by the harsh overhead light during nighttime restroom trips. The TOTO Neorest AC puts these types of experiences in the past thanks to its built-in nightlight, which illuminates the bowl with a gentle glow. The Bio Bidet IB-835 doesn’t come with a nightlight, but the good news is that users who consider this a necessity can purchase an after-market nightlight and install it themselves. It will perform just as well as the built-in kind, though it won’t look as streamlined.

Wash

Water Flow

TOTO’s high end units, such as the Neorest AC, put a premium on water conservation, which benefits both your wallet and the planet. The TOTO Neorest AC uses 0.11 gallons of wash water per minute, which maximizes efficiency without sacrificing wash quality. In comparison, the Bio Bidet IB-835 uses 0.18 gallons per minute. This difference may seem small up front, but it can add up over time.

Water Heating

Water heating methods vary from unit to unit, and it’s useful to know the options available along with their benefits and downsides. The TOTO Neorest AC features an instant water heating system, which provides an unending, consistently warm stream of water for washing. The Bio Bidet IB-835, on the other hand, features a tank water heating system, which keeps a set amount of warm water on hand at any given time. When the warm water in the tank runs out, which can happen if the unit is used several times in quick succession or if a user runs multiple wash cycles, the unit will switch to using cool water until the tank has a chance to refill. The main downside here is that you aren’t guaranteed unlimited warm water for washing, though this may or may not be an issue depending on how much use the unit gets.

Other Differences

Weight Limit

While the TOTO Neorest AC can only accommodate up to 350 lbs, the Bio Bidet IB-835 is rated to support up to 400 lbs. For this reason, heavier users may want to consider the Bio Bidet IB-835 over the TOTO Neorest AC.

Flushing

The TOTO Neorest AC conserves water by offering a dual flush option that allows users to choose between a small flush (0.8 gallons) for liquid waste or a large flush (1.0 gallons) for solid waste. Both of these flush options use less water than a traditional toilet while delivering a powerful flush that gets the job done. The Bio Bidet IB-835, on the other hand, uses 1.6 gallons per flush. Again, it looks like a small difference, but the extra water used can add up over time, impacting both the planet and your pocketbook.

PREMIST

The TOTO Neorest AC automatically coats the toilet bowl with a thin film of water prior to use in a process called PREMIST. The PREMIST film creates a slippery surface that makes it difficult for waste residue to stick to the bowl, thus cutting down on the amount of cleaning the unit requires. The Bio Bidet IB-835 doesn’t have a PREMIST feature, so residue will cling to the bowl with the same frequency as an average toilet.

EWATER+

Many TOTO units, including the Neorest AC, use electrolyzed water (EWATER+) to sanitize the bowl and nozzles after each use. In contrast, the Bio Bidet IB-835 rinses its bowl and nozzles with regular water, which lacks the sanitizing properties of EWATER+.

Actilight

The TOTO Neorest AC spares no expense when it comes to unit hygiene, and it’s one of a handful of TOTO integrated units to offer Actilight self-cleaning technology. Actilight doesn’t rely on traditional cleaning agents or user effort but instead combines UV light with EWATER+ and the bowl’s special CeFiONtect glaze to break down any residual waste left in the bowl. The system is designed to significantly cut back on the amount of manual cleaning the unit requires without using any toxic chemicals. The Bio Bidet IB-835 doesn’t feature self-cleaning technology, so it requires the same amount of manual cleaning as a traditional toilet.

Customer Support

Customer service is where the Bio bidet IB-835 really shines. In our many years in business, we’ve consistently heard great feedback about Bio Bidet’s customer support, while we’ve gotten mixed reviews about TOTO’s service.

Final Thoughts

There’s a lot to consider when deciding between the TOTO Neorest AC and the Bio Bidet IB-835. You’ll first need to decide whether you have a hard and fast preference between a wall-hung unit (Neorest AC) and a floor-mounted unit (Bio Bidet IB-835). If you’re open to either, the next consideration is whether you require a unit with a higher weight limit or don’t want to risk a less than stellar customer service experience–if the answer to either of these is “yes”, you may want to seriously consider the Bio Bidet IB-835, keeping in mind that it offers significantly fewer features than the TOTO Neorest AC. If, on the other hand, you want the best money can buy and have the budget to match, we’d suggest putting the TOTO Neorest AC at the top of your list of contenders. With water saving features, PREMIST, electrolyzed water, Actilight self-cleaning technology, instant water heater, nightlight and automatic open/close lid, the TOTO Neorest AC is truly one of the highest performing units on the market today.
