Detailed Comparison of the TOTO Neorest EW and the Bio Bidet IB-385 Toilet and Bidet Seat

Looks and Mounting

One of the most apparent differences between the TOTO Neorest EW and the Bio Bidet IB-835 are their looks. The TOTO Neorest EW is a wall mounted unit meaning that the tank and flushing mechanism are hidden in the wall while the unit itself appears to float over the floor. Aside from the aesthetic appeal, this is also a great option for bathrooms where space is tight since the visible portion of the unit takes up quite a bit less space than a traditional, floor-mounted unit. In comparison, the Bio Bidet IB-835 is a floor mounted unit, so waste is disposed of via a drain in the floor. Like most standard floor-mounted units, the Bio Bidet IB-835 requires a 12-inch rough in (there must be 12 inches between the back wall and the center of the drain). Both units offer a sleek, upscale look, just in different ways, so neither one is better or worse when it comes to appearances.

Convenience

Auto Opening

The TOTO Neorest EW is top of its class when it comes to convenience features, and one of our favorites is the automatic open/close lid, which senses when someone is walking towards or away from the unit. The Bio Bidet IB-835 doesn’t offer this feature, so you’ll need to open and shut the lid manually.

Nightlight

It’s easy to underestimate the value of a built-in nightlight, but it’s worth noting how a little detail like this can create a safer and more pleasant bathroom experience, particularly for middle of the night trips. Thanks to the TOTO Neorest EW’s built-in nightlight, you can say goodbye to stumbling around the bathroom in the dark or being blinded by the bathroom light in the middle of the night. You’ll have to forego this convenience with the Bio Bidet IB-835, which doesn’t come with a built-in nightlight. However, one option available to Bio Bidet IB-835 owners is to purchase and install an after-market nightlight. It’s not as sleek as a built-in nightlight, but it’s fairly easy to install and gets the job done.

Wash

Water Flow

Between the two, the TOTO Neorest EW is more efficient when it comes to wash water usage. The Neorest EW uses 0.11 gallons per minute, while the IB-835 uses 0.18 gallons per minute. It’s a small difference up front but can add up over time, so it’s worth being aware of, especially if efficiency is a priority for you.

Water Heating

Water heating methods can have an impact on user comfort, particularly if your unit gets frequent use during the day. The Bio Bidet IB-835 features a tank water heater, which heats a set amount of water at a time. You’ll have plenty of warm water for a standard wash cycle, but if you run the wash cycle long enough or use the unit in quick succession, you’ll likely exhaust the supply of warm water. At that point, the unit will switch over to using cool water until the warm water tank has a chance to refill. In contrast, the TOTO Neorest EW has an instant water heating system, which provides unlimited warm water. This means that no matter how long you run the wash cycle or how frequently you use the unit, you can always count on having warm wash water available.

Other Differences

Weight Limit

Both the Bio Bidet IB-835 and the TOTO Neorest EW are durable units, but the Bio Bidet IB-835 is a good unit for larger users to consider as it can accommodate up to 400 lbs, while the TOTO Neorest EW has a weight limit of 350 lbs.

Flushing

Powerful yet efficient flushing is a must, and the TOTO Neorest EW offers both. It’s a dual-flush unit, meaning that you have the option of using 0.8 gallons per flush or the 1.0 gallons per flush depending on whether you’re flushing solid waste or not. The Bio Bidet IB-835 isn’t a dual flush unit, and it uses 1.6 gallons per flush. As with the wash water usage, this may seem like a small difference but can add up over time, both for your wallet and the planet, so it’s good to be aware of when deciding on a unit.

PREMIST

TOTO integrated units, including the Neorest EW, feature PREMIST, in which the unit automatically coats the bowl with a thin film of water prior to use. This helps keep residue from sticking to the bowl, thus improving unit cleanliness. The Bio Bidet IB-835 doesn’t offer this, so you can expect to clean it about as frequently as you do a traditional toilet.

EWATER+

The TOTO Neorest EW features EWATER+, electrolyzed water with sanitizing properties that is used to PREMIST the bowl and to cleanse the nozzles and bowl after use, thus taking unit cleanliness and hygiene to a new level. The Bio Bidet IB-835 also cleanses its nozzles and bowl after use but uses regular water that doesn’t have the cleaning power of EWATER+.

Customer Support

We’ve gotten mixed reviews from customers regarding TOTO’s customer service, so while some have a great experience with them, others aren’t as thrilled. On the other hand, we’ve consistently heard terrific feedback about Bio Bidet’s customer service, so we consider them the winner in this category.

Final Thoughts

There are definite pros and cons to both the TOTO Neorest EW and the Bio Bidet IB-835. On features alone, the TOTO Neorest EW is the clear winner due to its automatic open/close lid, built-in nightlight, efficient water usage, dual flush, instant water heater, PREMIST and EWATER+. It’s also a great option if you’re looking for a compact unit that will take up minimal space. While the Bio Bidet IB-835 has fewer features, it nevertheless has a higher weight limit and a track record of good customer service, as well as being a traditional floor-mounted unit. They’re both high quality units, so your preferences and priorities are ultimately the deciding factor in determining which meets your needs best.
