Detailed Comparison of the TOTO Neorest EW and the TOTO G400 Toilet and WASHLET Combo

Look and Feel

Overall Look and Feel

One of the most noticeable differences between the TOTO Neorest EW and the TOTO G400 Toilet and WASHLET is their looks. As a wall hung unit with an angular silhouette, the Neorest EW brings modern sophistication to any bathroom. Because of its compact size, it’s a great fit for bathrooms that are tight on space. The TOTO G400 is a traditional floor-mounted unit, so it takes up more room than the Neorest EW and requires a 12-inch rough in. This is standard for floor mounted units and means that there needs to be 12 inches from the back wall to the center of the drain or flange. While the Neorest EW is only available in white, the G400 comes in both white and beige, so it’s a good fit for users who want an off-white unit.

Night Light

The TOTO Neorest EW features a built-in nightlight that makes trips to the bathroom in low light safer and more pleasant–after all, who hasn’t had the jarring experience of being blinded by the bathroom light in the middle of the night or tripping on the way to the toilet. The TOTO G400 doesn’t have a nightlight, but users who consider this a necessity can purchase an after-market version and install it themselves. It isn’t as sleek as the built-in kind, but it gets the job done just the same and comes in a variety of colors.

Functionality

EWATER+

The TOTO EW uses special electrolyzed water, called EWATER+, to coat the bowl before use (making it harder for residue to stick) and to sanitize the bowl and wands after each use. The TOTO G400 Toilet and WASHLET also PREMISTs the bowl and rinses the nozzles and bowl after each use, but it uses regular water to do so, which lacks the sanitizing properties of the Neorest EW’s EWATER+.

Water Heater

Water heating methods vary from bidet to bidet, but it’s important to know your options as the type of heating system can impact user comfort and convenience. The TOTO Neorest EW features an instant water heating system, which provides unlimited warm water. It doesn’t matter how long or how often you use the unit, you can always count on having consistent warm wash water. In comparison, the TOTO G400 Toilet and WASHLET has a tank water heater, which keeps a set amount of warm water on hand at any given time. If you use that water up–such as by using the unit multiple times in a row, or running an extra-long wash–the unit will switch to using cool water until the warm water tank has a chance to refill.

Wide Front Cleanse

In addition to offering front, rear, and soft rear cleanse options, the TOTO Neorest EW also offers a wide front cleanse, designed for superior feminine cleansing coverage. The TOTO G400 Toilet and WASHLET offers front and rear cleansing but doesn’t offer a wide front cleanse.

Final Thoughts

There are a lot of pros to both the TOTO Neorest EW and the TOTO G400 Toilet and WASHLET, but when it comes to features, the TOTO Neorest EW is the clear winner thanks to its built-in nightlight, sanitizing EWATER+, wide front cleanse option, and instant water heating system. It’s also a great choice for small restroom spaces thanks to its compact size. That said, if you’re looking for a less expensive or floor-mounted model, the G400 Toilet and WASHLET is definitely worth consideration. It’s also a good option if you prefer a beige unit as it comes in both white and beige. At the end of the day, you’ll be getting a solid unit with either the TOTO Neorest EW or the G400 Toilet and WASHLET, so your budget and preferences will ultimately determine which fits your needs best.
