Looks & Mounting

When it comes to features, the TOTO Neorest NX2 and the TOTO Neorest AC are nearly identical. Their main difference is in aesthetics and size. Though both feature an ultra-modern silhouette, the TOTO Neorest NX2 is floor-mounted and has smooth, rounded contours while the TOTO Neorest AC is wall-hung and has a boxy, angular look. Neither is “better” per se, it simply depends on your own sense of style as to which you’ll prefer. One benefit to the TOTO Neorest AC is that its tank and flushing equipment are hidden in the bathroom wall, making it more compact than a floor-mounted unit, so it’s a good way to conserve space in a small bathroom.

NX2 Updates

It’s worth mentioning that TOTO made a few upgrades in the design of the bowl, seat and flush system on the Neorest NX2 and it’s sibling, the Neorest NX1, setting these two units ahead of the competition on the most basic level. First, the NX2’s seat is designed with comfort in mind and features a gentle slope up in the back that cradles the user’s behind, resulting in a stable and supportive sit. Moreover, unlike most toilets and integrated units on the market today, the NX2’s bowl has no rim, meaning that it’s a smooth surface from top to bottom that gives dirt and germs no place to lurk and makes for extremely easy cleaning. Lastly, TOTO reconfigured the design of its signature Tornado Flush system on the NX2, leading to a flush stream that powerfully targets the areas of the bowl most likely to attract waste residue. Taken together, this attention to seemingly small design details takes the NX2 from excellent to superior.

Final Thoughts

Aside from looks, there aren’t too many differences between the TOTO Neorest AC and the TOTO Neorest NX2: both are truly top tier units. If you’re working with a small bathroom you may want to consider the TOTO Neorest AC as its compact size makes it a good option for those types of spaces. You’ll also want to keep in mind the updates to the NX2’s exterior design and basic parts like the flush system, seat and bowl. Otherwise, deciding between the two will likely be determined by your personal tastes.
