Should my Bidet Seat Wiggle After it’s Installed?

Do bidet seats have any wiggle after they have been installed? Short answer, yes. That doesn’t mean there aren’t things you can help do to minimize this though.

Most bidet seats are installed on your existing toilet with two bolts and a plastic mounting bracket that your seat will lock into place on. While this should keep your seat from sliding forward, it is possible you may still experience some left to right movement when sitting down initially. Follow the tips and tricks below to ensure your bidet seat is properly secured.

Check Toilet Shape

Toilets that have a curve at the back (commonly known as a French Curve style) can make it more difficult to install a bidet on. This is because the inward curve of the tank prevents the bidet seat from being able to slide back fully onto the mounting bracket and lock into place. Generally you will need about 2″ of unobstructed flat space between the center of the seat bolt holes and the toilet tank for a secure fit.

Besides style, toilet bowl shape is another factor that can affect fit. Toilets typically come in either elongated or round bowl options. Pairing an elongated seat with a round bowl (or vice versa) can prevent a proper fit. Oftentimes when the seat and bowl shapes are mismatched the feet on the underside of the seat will not sit properly on the rim of the bowl.

Mounting Plate

If you feel as if there is too much movement in the mounting plate for your bidet, start by making sure you have the bolts tightened down properly. While you do want to avoid overtightening the bracket (to avoid cracking the plastic) it should still be sufficiently snug against the seat. If it is not, try giving it a few more turns with the screwdriver to get it locked in place.

Double sided tape is another option when you have already tried the above steps. This can be placed on the underside of your mounting bracket to help prevent it from sliding. Silicone bumper pads can also be used in this way to provide a bit of additional grip.

Final Thoughts

Regardless of how well you installed your seat, it is possible you might still see a little bit of wiggle from time to time. The good news is, this shouldn’t impact your bidets performance. The tips and tricks mentioned above should help to minimize that wiggling as much as possible and it should be pretty minimalized.
