TOTO NEOREST NX2 Three Years Later: Is It Worth the Price?
If you’ve been following along with Many Bidets on Instagram, you’ve probably heard us talk about the world’s most expensive bidet toilet: the TOTO NEOREST NX2. Bidet guru and Many Bidets owner Dan Johnson has been lucky enough to use the NX2 every day for the last three years. So did it earn its luxury price tag? Watch the video below and read on for his expert take.
When it comes to premium bidet toilets, no one does it better than TOTO. The NX2 takes TOTO’s NEOREST line to new heights, but all those luxury features don’t come cheap. After three years of real-world testing, we’re here to report on the NX2’s comfort, flush power, remote control, ACTILIGHT self-cleaning and wash pressure.
Let’s dive right into the insider details!
1. Comfort
If you’re used to a standard toilet seat, the NX2’s sitting area might seem a bit small. Fortunately, looks can be deceiving! The NX2’s unique shape and ergonomic contouring – and its heated seat with five temperature levels – make for an extremely comfortable sitting experience.
Just how comfortable? Well, when we decided we wanted an NX2 in our showroom so our customers could try the world’s most expensive bidet toilet for themselves, Dan offered to bring his over…and was immediately vetoed by his wife!
When we first installed the NX2, we noticed some creaking noises when we sat down. If this happens to you, not to worry! Once the NX2 settled into place, the creaking disappeared and hasn’t been an issue since.
2. Flush Power
Our customers frequently ask about flush power and volume when they consider an integrated unit. (We’ve tested some bidet toilets that make quite a ruckus – or even rattle the pipes in the wall – so we get it!) But TOTO’s top-of-the-line flush mechanism gets the job done without the noise. In fact, it’s so quiet that even light sleepers, like Dan’s wife, snooze right through nighttime flushes. And TOTO’s TORNADO FLUSH® technology ensures that waste is efficiently and completely whisked away with a single flush.
3. Remote Control
We love the quality of the NX2’s stainless steel remote control. It looks classy, feels nice in your hand and gives you tons of control over your bathroom routine. But we don’t love that some commonly used settings, like water, seat and dryer temperature, are on the back of the remote. It can be tough to take the remote out of the holder and flip it over without accidentally pressing buttons on the front or top. The good news is that, even after using it for three years, this isn’t a deal breaker. Since the NX2 comes with four user presets, Dan recommends dialing in your preferences and saving them so you get the perfect wash with just a couple of button presses (and without having to take the remote out of the holder).
The latest version of the NX2 remote has a new, ultra-convenient perk: separate seat and lid open buttons. Dan’s three-year-old NX2 uses a single button that opens the seat and lid together. After installing the latest model in the showroom, Dan was surprised by how much he loved this little upgrade. It makes it easy to ensure that the lid is always closed before the toilet automatically flushes.
4. ACTILIGHT Self-Cleaning
The NX2’s big upgrade over its less-expensive counterpart, the NEOREST NX1, is its self-cleaning capability. TOTO’s ACTILIGHT cleaning technology automatically bathes the toilet bowl with ultraviolet (UV) light each night. The UV light interacts with the coating on the bowl to break down residue and debris. The promise? You’ll wake up to a clean toilet bowl every morning.
We were a bit skeptical about the self-cleaning claims, but after three years, Dan’s a believer. You’ll still need to wipe down the seat and exterior of the NX2 from time to time, but ACTILIGHT lets you enjoy a clean bowl day after day without any scrubbing or chemicals.
5. Wash Pressure
While a lot of bidets excel at either a gentle wash or a powerful stream, the NX2 offers both – and does both well. Separate soft and regular washes – with pressure adjustments for each option – mean you can tailor the spray to whatever feels most comfortable in the moment. If you’re dealing with soreness, the soft wash gets you clean while calming irritated areas. And the regular wash has the might to tackle messy bowel movements. Three years on, Dan continues to love the NX2’s wide pressure range and soothing soft wash.
“If I’m particularly sore back there one day, it is really, really nice to be able to go as extremely soft as the TOTO NEOREST NX2 allows. I really appreciated – more than I expected, actually – the ability to have that wider range of wash pressures, and that’s something the NX2 does extremely well.”
Dan Johnson, Owner & Founder of Many Bidets
Bottom line: Is the NX2 worth the cost?
After three years, Dan (and his wife) can hardly imagine living without their NX2, so that’s a resounding yes! “If you’re looking for the best toilet money can buy, I would highly recommend the NX2,” he says. Over time, he’s been surprised by how much he loves some of the features, and the NX2 has continued to perform exceptionally day after day.
The best part? You don’t have to take our word for it – you can try the NX2 for yourself at our Brighton, Michigan bidet showroom! Dan couldn’t talk his wife into giving up their NX2, but we were able to get a brand-new unit for you to test in one of our private bathrooms.
And if you love the fresh, clean bidet feeling but can’t swing the NX2’s price tag, we’ll help you find the perfect fit for your bathroom and budget. Stop by the showroom or connect with one of our bidet experts for a personalized consultation!
