TOTO bidets come with tons of customization options – but sometimes the new double-sided remote can feel a little overwhelming! We get tons of questions about this remote, which works with the S7 and S7A WASHLET bidet seats and the NEOREST RS integrated bidet toilet.
Take a deep dive into all the features – and learn how to build your perfect wash – with Many Bidets founder and bidet expert Daniel Johnson.

Front of the Remote
Top Buttons
The large top buttons on the front of the remote give you access to all the basics:
- Stop: Press this button to stop all the operating functions.
- Rear Wash & Soft Rear Wash: You may also hear this function referred to as a posterior wash. One press activates the regular rear wash. A second press starts a soft rear wash.
- Front Wash & Soft Front Wash: This function is often called a feminine wash, as it’s designed to gently cleanse the vulva. One press activates the regular front wash. A second press starts a soft front wash. The soft front wash on these bidets is very soft – almost a mist!
- Dryer: This button activates the warm air dryer, which can be adjusted to your ideal temperature. (More on that later.)
- User Presets: Press this button once to select the first user preset, twice to select the second and so on. The S7, S7A and RS can store four user presets. We’ll get a little more in-depth on user presets once we discuss all the settings you can save in them!
Bottom Buttons
The smaller buttons on the front of the remote start to dig into the customization options:
- Nozzle Cleaning: The bidet automatically self-cleans its nozzle before and after each use by rinsing it with water. (So don’t worry if you hear the water running – it’s supposed to do that!) The ‘Nozzle Cleaning’ button gives you the option to manually activate the self-cleaning function at any time.
- Deodorizer: The bidet’s deodorizer traps odors before they can escape the bowl – all without any chemicals or fragrances. Pressing the button once turns the deodorizer on, and pressing it again stops the deodorizer if it’s running. If the deodorizer is left on, it will run for about a minute after you walk away and then automatically turn itself off.
- Pressure Adjustment: Use the plus and minus buttons to customize the water pressure to your liking. TOTO products have one of the best pressure ranges in the industry, and the adjustment options – combined with the regular and soft wash options – ensure the perfect pressure for every need and preference.
- Nozzle Position: In addition to dialing in your ideal water pressure, TOTO bidets let you adjust the nozzle position. Their telescoping design means you get plenty of options for moving the nozzle forward and backward, so you’ll be able to hit the right spot without any shifting around.
- Pulsating: With its alternating streams of hard and soft pressure, the Pulsating wash acts like a massage to soothe tight muscles. It can even help stimulate a bowel movement and make it easier to go. Press the Pulsating button once to turn it on and a second time to turn it off.
- Nozzle Oscillation: Looking to get clean in a hurry or make short work of a messy bowel movement? This button turns on Nozzle Oscillation, which moves the nozzles back and forth to quickly cover more surface area. As with the Pulsating wash, pressing the button once activates Nozzle Oscillation and a second press turns it off.
Back of the Remote
Manual Operations & Temperature Settings
The buttons on the left side of the back of the remote give you more control over the bidet’s operations and help you find your perfect temperature levels:
- Power: Press and hold the power button for three seconds to turn the unit on or off. Don’t have access to the back of the remote (for example, because it’s locked into the wall mount)? The bidet can also be turned on and off using buttons on the front. Simultaneously hold down the Stop and plus sign (part of the Pressure Adjustment) buttons for 10 seconds. The LED indicators on the remote will flash. Press plus, minus and plus again to finish turning the unit on or off. It might sound a bit complicated, but it’s an improvement over the older models, which could easily be turned on or off by mistake!
- Settings: The Settings button is a bit of an enigma! We tested every button on the remote, but couldn’t identify what the Settings button actually does. Unfortunately, the user manual didn’t shed any light on the situation. If we discover its purpose, we’ll update this post – and if you happen to know, please reach out so we can solve the mystery!
- Manual Nozzle Cleaning: Yup, there’s a Nozzle Cleaning button on the front of the remote, but the two are not the same! While the button on the front of the remote runs a self-cleaning cycle, the Manual Nozzle Cleaning button extends the nozzle without spraying water. This allows you to gently clean the nozzle with a toothbrush or soft rag. Pressing the button a second time retracts the nozzle back into the housing.
- Manual Premist: TOTO’s PREMIST feature automatically coats the toilet bowl with a thin layer of water before each use to prevent waste from sticking. If you ever want to activate PREMIST manually, this button has your back!
- Lower Water: This button works exclusively with the NEOREST RS integrated bidet toilet. It lowers the water level in the toilet bowl so you can clean every nook and cranny. If you have an S7 or S7A, you can simply ignore this button!
- Water Temperature: Pressing the Water Temperature button lets you cycle through the five temperature levels to find your perfect setting. The selected temperature is indicated by the LED lights. The temperature starts at the lowest setting with the first button press. Keep pressing to raise it to the highest setting. Once you’ve reached the highest level, additional button presses will cycle the temperature back down to the lowest setting. Pressing the button again once you’ve reached the lowest setting will turn water heating off completely.
- Seat Temperature: The Seat Temperature button operates just like the Water Temperature button, cycling you through the five levels before turning the heat off.
- Dryer Air Temperature: You guessed it! This button controls the temperature of the warm air dryer in the same way as the water and seat temperatures.
User Presets
Now that we’ve covered all the ways you can customize the wash, let’s revisit the User Presets button on the front of the remote. Since all the temperature adjustments are located on the back, they’re not easily accessible if the remote is mounted to the wall. With User Presets, you can set your preferences once and get your ideal wash with just a few button presses.
User presets can be set mid-wash or by selecting your settings without running a wash. Once you have all your wash settings where you want them, press the User Presets button for five seconds to lock them in. The LED lights indicate which preset is being saved – press and hold again to move to the second, third and fourth presets.
You can activate your preset before or after starting a wash, but keep in mind that the settings will be the same whether you run a front or rear wash! Also note that presets save the nozzle position, so you’ll get the right wash settings in the ideal location.
Energy Saving
After our User Presets intermission, let’s return to the back of the remote. The buttons in the middle help you take the eco-friendly benefits of bidets a step further:
- Auto Energy Saver & Auto Energy Saver+: Over about a 10-day period, the bidet learns when it sees less frequent use. During these times, it automatically turns the seat heater down to conserve energy. Auto Energy Saver+ takes the same concept to the next level, turning the seat heater off completely during periods of less-frequent use. Press the button once to turn Auto Energy Saver on and a second time to activate Auto Energy Saver+.
- Timer Energy Saver: If you’d prefer to take a manual approach to energy saving, the Timer Energy Saver button lets you turn the seat heater off for a set period of time (say, while you’re sleeping or away at work). Press the button once to turn the heater off for six hours and a second time to pause heating for nine hours.
Automatic Functions
The Automatic Functions buttons are where the remotes will differ depending on which model you have. All three bidets have buttons on the top for opening and closing the seat and lid. They also all automatically open when you approach the toilet, so you’ll probably use these buttons most often to open and close the seat, but the option is there if you need it.
If you have the NEOREST RS or a WASHLET+ system with an automatic flush kit, there’s space for two additional buttons: Small Flush and Large Flush. These buttons come preinstalled if you have an RS, but if you have an auto flush kit, you’ll have to do a brief DIY assembly. It’s a simple matter of popping off the blank cover and snapping the buttons in place. (Jump to the 9:20 mark in the video at the top of this post for a walkthrough.)
All three models give you the flexibility to turn the auto-opening lid and automatic flushing functions on or off. These buttons are located on the back of the remote. Just press each one once to turn the feature on and again to turn it off. When the functions are active, the LED indicator will be lit.
ANOTHER Mystery Button!
In spite of all our testing, we couldn’t find anything that this button did on any of the units! As with the mysterious Settings button from earlier, the manual did not give us any direction. To date, we have no choice but to call this one a mystery, but if you figure it out, please let us know!
Wall Mount
When it comes to wall-mounting your remote, you’ve got options! All of these bidets come with two different wall mounts: one that holds onto the remote using magnets and another that the remote snaps into securely. If you want to have easy access to the buttons on the back of the remote, opt for the magnet version. The snap-in option is a great choice for guest bathrooms to prevent it from being taken off the wall and dropped or lost. Whichever you choose, you can mount it to the wall or vanity using either adhesive or screws.
